The sons of Eli were religious, but wicked.
Eli's sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests
who acted wickedly by stealing from the sacrifices and committing immoral
acts with lewd women at the LORD's tabernacle. Their corrupt behavior led to
God's judgment against Eli and his family for not restraining them.
Tragically, billions of people who are religious today do not fear God. They commit adultery, file for divorce and commit all manner of wickedness, while superficially living the Christian life.
Take for example a rebellious wife. She attends church every Sunday, reads her Bible, prays and wears nothing but dresses. Sadly, she disobeys her husband, she's lazy and irresponsible, she sasses him and runs to shelters whenever she throws a tantrum. She is rottenness in her husband's bones, making his life miserable. The poor fella doesn't know how to handle a crazy wife. She is religious, but turned aside after Satan.
Dear reader, the world is full of billions of religious people, most of whom are as worldly and carnal as can be. I learned a very long time ago that being religious and being godly are two very different things. Just because someone goes to church, wears modest clothing, reads their Bible and sings hymns doesn't mean that they are right with God. You are only as good a Christian as you obey the two greatest commandments in the inspired Holy Bible to love God and love your neighbor as thyself.
A rebellious wife doesn't love her husband or God. I know a poor fella whose wife sass him. She got angry with him and abandoned him to run to a women's shelter. With the shelter's help she started her own bank account, applied for a job and secured her own apartment, all done without her husband's permission. When her hurt husband said she should have asked for his permission, she said: “I don't need your permission.” Oh yes she does! Ephesians 5:22, “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.” Instead of obeying her husband as if he were God, she filed for divorced. Woe unto that ungodly spoiled brat at the Judgment Seat of Christ in eternity. Her attitude is all wrong toward her marriage. Commitment means nothing to her. She is a loser!
Woe unto that ungrateful spoiled brat wife who causes her poor husband undue grief, sorrow and becomes the rottenness in his bones! I don't care how faithful you may be to attend church, read your Bible and pray, you are a lousy Christian if your husband is continually upset, frustrated and grieved because of your rebellious behavior, bad attitude and sassy big mouth. GET RIGHT WITH GOD!
